The challenge is up and running...

29-Jun-2016

The Marathon a Month campaign kicked off at the start of May and saw Jan compete in a variety of short races to make up the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles). It was a very positive start to the campaign as Jan secured a personal best at her first challenge race – the Spring 10K in Sefton Park, Liverpool. The remainder of the miles for May were made up of three sociable and quick Birkenhead park runs, a very wet and soggy Thurstaston Multi terrain, a windy Wirral Seaside run and the charity race in aid of Allan Pascoe. These diverse runs brought her total competitive miles to 27.62.

Starting a bit of trend June saw Jan achieve another 10K personal best at the Mersey Tunnel 10K. While Jan holidayed on the Med, Rachel Wood, co-director at Jan McDermott & Co, entered the spirit of the challenge and took up a park run to help Jan reach her monthly target. The other races that tipped her over her 26.2. mile target for June were 2 Birkenhead park runs, the Birkenhead Park Five Mile Road Race and a picturesque, if hilly 7.5 mile race at Llandegla. Total competitive miles covered came to 28.04 (in addition to her usual club runs and the odd training run thrown in for good measure).

Jan and her colleagues are raising money for the Alzheimer's Society and Birkenhead’s Welcome Centre. The Alzheimer’s Society funds research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of all types of dementia and has committed to spend at least £100 million on research over the next decade. The Welcome Centre in Birkenhead offers a place for carers of those with disabilities to come along and access the help and support they need.
