Team effort for July’s ‘Marathon a Month’

Managing Director of Jan McDemott & Co Chartered Accountants, Jan McDermott has set herself the challenge of completing 26.2 miles in competitive races each month for a year in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society and Birkenhead’s Welcome Centre.
A recent recruit to Wallasey Running Club Jan started the campaign at the beginning of May and is running the distance of a marathon each month through a series of 5K, 5 mile, and 10K races.

Following a number of personal bests in June Jan had to take a step back in July due to illness and injury. However, during the first couple of months of races she had inspired other members of the team with her running exploits who then helped her keep on schedule by ‘donating’ their races to her running total.
Despite illness Jan still managed to fit in a Parkrun in Birkenhead, a 5 miler in Sefton and a Wirral Seaside Run. Co-director Rachel Wood joined the campaign by completing two Parkruns while Amy Wall and Helen Cross did a Parkrun each. Amy also contributed to the 26.2 mile target by getting splattered in mud at the Brimstage Maze Pretty Muddy 5K.
Jan says ‘July was a real team effort but we managed to complete our target. I’m back to fitness and back on track for completing August races myself. It’s great that this campaign has seen some other team members enter races as this was one of the reasons I took up the challenge – to get fit, encourage the team to get running and to raise money for some good causes’.
