Glancing back, driving forward

01-Feb-2017

Now that January is over and we’ve filed all our clients' self-assessment tax returns we have time reflect on our past year and share our plans for the year ahead.

2016 saw Jan McDermott & Co Chartered Accountants make advances in all areas of business from its technical offerings, through its compliance to its altruistic work.

This time last year the company launched Openspace – a cloud based secure document-sharing platform embraced by its clients. The success of this software has been obvious from the start but never more so that during the submissions of self-assessment tax returns. All clients can now feel safe that their information is securely delivered over the web offering a time saving and green solution to transferring documents.

The company continued to roll out Xero – also cloud based but this time a software to help clients get a real time picture of business finances whether they are on the go or office based. The benefit of both the client and the practice seeing and talking about the same up to date information has made decisions easier to reach and plans simpler to implement.

Earlier in 2016 the firm’s managing director, Jan McDermott, launched a charitable campaign to take part in numerous races on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association and Birkenhead’s Welcome Centre. Jan has spent the past eight months touring the North West taking part in races and raising money. The Marathon a Month challenge will finish in April, after keeping this momentum going for 12 months.

The company has continued to keep clients and associates up to date with legislative changes, news from the world of accountancy and the latest news from within the firm through newsletters, exhibitions and speaking at conferences.

So what for the future?

2017 will see the practice add to the myriad of Xero products available to clients such as Crunchboards, an all in one business forecasting and reporting engine to help businesses know where they have been and where they are going.

The firm has just introduced clients to its new sister company Payroll Powerhouse, serving the payroll side of the business and giving clients access to dedicated expertise.

A move is on the cards, only round the corner but will help us better serve our clients from our new offices.

And new acquisitions will help us expand our offering – watch this space as we unveil our plans over the coming months.

We look forward to supporting our clients however they need us - whether this is through ensuring they are compliant or helping them expand and grow.

And we wish you all a successful year.
